.live a new life.

It’s been awhile since I’ve written anything worth reading. It’s been awhile since I’ve done anything worth writing, and both of those problems need to change.

I’m back at work again and loving it. I love my job, and am very thankful to be back at it once again. Especially since now that the snow has melted my 10,000 sqft back yard of dirt, rocks, and tumbleweeds really needs to have something done with it. Most of the time I keep the blinds closed I so I don’t have to look at it… only it’s still there when I open them again to enjoy my great view. So hopefully by summer the yard will be done, and then it’ll be the fence that needs to go in – and then I can start decorating the inside! Paint, furniture, rugs, curtains, accessories! So excited! (Don’t read this part husband, it’s not as much as it sounds like).

I need to start getting back into photography. I need to start reading more. I need to stop wasting so much time with television and facebook, and the distractions of the world. I need to re-prioritize and life my life focusing on those things. I know those of you that know me will say that I can’t do this – but, I’m here to tell you that I can – I will. I spent sometime today thinking about this plan and here it is….

Untitled-1

It’s that simple. I’m so tired of writing about what I’m going to do, and planning out how to do it. Just do it. The one thing I need to put at the absolute top of my new priority list is the Gospel. My relationship with my Heavenly Father isn’t what it used to be and I keep expecting it to just come back – but it won’t, until I put forth the effort and try – and really want it, and by showing I really want it, need it in my life. I live within 20-30 minutes of 4 temples. How many times have I been in the past year? zero. That’s uncalled for. I have a temple in my work district. In fact we are stewards over the meetinghouse on the temple grounds,  5 minutes from my office. I could go on my lunch! Do I? No. Should I ? Yes. Will I? Yes.

I read on average 3 400 page books a month. How many pages of scripture are there? Yah. Why should it take me a year to read the almost 600 page Book of Mormon? It shouldn’t, but it does. Once again un-called for. I know our purpose in life. I know what the plan is, but yet I get so distracted I don’t remember that, or focus on it, and I should.

I’ve already scheduled two things that I am really excited about. The first is my sister and I have been apparently thinking about the same things for awhile, how to re-focus our lives. So we are going to be doing a special project together that I will be excited to blog about after it’s done. I don’t want to write anything about it yet, as I want the experience to be pure and clean from expectations and pre-conceived notions.

The second, will be starting tomorrow…

Thursdays will be a no computer, no phone, no internet day. I’m not completely cutting myself off but I’m limiting it to need not want. I use the computer at work, but I don’t have to have my websites open (my fitness pal, facebook, google reader, gmail, etc). I will only use what my job requires and that’s all. My phone, will be used as a phone. When I get home from work, I will use the TV to do my workout (1hr) and that’s it. It will then be turned off and I will focus my time on family history, reading, learning, writing letters, etc. I can use the computer for family history but the other stuff? It can wait til Friday. It will still all be there.

I’ll post about my Thursdays – I know sounds kinda oxymoronic… but I won’t be doing it on Thursday. Anyone else want to join in? I’m excited, I really think it will help me cleanse my time and how I waste spend my free hours of the day. Now it’s time to go through my Hulu queue and weed out what I really don’t want to watch, care to watch, or should watch.

It’s time to simplify.

It’s time to re-prioritize.

It’s time to….

Newness at Work

I love my new office, it's fantastic. I had flowers on my desk this morning from the manager I was replacing, they are beautiful pink roses and put a fantastic smile on my face. I have a large window that overlooks the city I work in as well as I-680.

The only overwhelming part is the organization...

There is a lot the needs to be gone through and re-done. But it's exciting, I have this strange obsession with organization. I will re-organize something over and over again just because I have nothing left to organize, and then pretty soon it is organized 'perfectly' (yes, I said it) and then I'm sad because there isn't anything left to organize. (I'm trying to see just how many times I can say the word organize... 7 so far, right?)

Anyway, today is filled with organization and a lot of things to learn, just as an eye opener, I went from 432,000 square feet to 953,000 square feet of facilities. So every week I am dealing with almost 1,000,000 square footage of problems (there aren't always problems in every square foot but there are always problems).

So wish me luck on this new journey of mine, what was I thinking?!? I'm still not quite sure. It's not very refreshing either when talking to head HR in SLC and after informing them what is going on, they say - "Don't you know how to say 'NO'??"

So we'll see how long this lasts.

Disrespectful Drivers Ruin Potential Business Clients?

I'm in a field where I always keep my eyes open for new vendors in the facilities operations division, ie: painters, HVAC techs, landscapers, glass repair, fire services, etc. I usually do this by going to the phone book, internet, or the super handy - "The Blue Book: Building and Construction", but most recently I catch myself trying to find a pen and paper to jot down a license number I see on a truck as I'm sitting in traffic, as I'm guessing that this is why they advertise on thier vehicles, right? I suppose you could say that I am a little picky when it comes to which numbers I write down, and I didn't recognize this until this morning. My routine for writing down these companies information usualy consists of:
  • Is the vehicle in good repair? If they care about thier own pieces of equipment they will more likely take care when they do a job for us at our properties. Now I understand that some work related vehicles will have paint on them if your a painter, or concrete/scratches if you are a concrete worker {I suppose those would be called masons?}, or dents if your carrying heavy equipment, all of these things I allow for. The things I'm talking about is if there is trash everywhere, if the company logo/sticker is peeling or in a bad condition. That is usually the first turn of from me when looking for companies.
  • Is there a CA state license number on the logo? This is important to us as we can't use anyone that isn't licensed or insured.
After I look at the condition of the vehicle and if it has the necessary information on it that I need to follow-up with the company and find out if they have the proper terms that we need to use them, I usually write down thier number.... well, until I realized I do something else. This morning I had down both of the items above and then it happened, they sped up and started weaving in and out of traffic like a mad man! I promptly stopped writing the number and blew them off as a company I would use. As I sit here and type this I can't think of why - the only thing I can come up with is if they are in a hurry on the road what would they do to a project they are working on if they are missing the deadline, would they recklessly hurry up to finish and not pay attention to the quality? Would they hurry through and make mistakes? Would they not do quality control and let the noticed mistakes go unfixed? Then I realized I really am not sure why I wouldn't use them - I do know however that if you are advertising your company it might be a wise decision to drive a little better than you would in your own car, as it could hurt your companys efforts to bring in new business, in my own opinion anyway, which is why I have a blog - to express my own opinion.

Do contractors think of these things when assigning drivers?! I understand that we all have deadlines and we all need to do things according to someone else's {boss, bills, life, children, spouse, parents, etc.} schedule but the best way to do them is to do it right the first time, no matter the time it takes and that is what builds the trust, not only meeting the deadline but meeting it with honesty and intergrity. So watch how you are driving because I am sure I'm not the only one out there in the world who gets information of possible new vendors off of the non-peeling/faded stickers on the side of business vehicles.

I think this applys to anyone for any type of business whether it be a daycare bus, to dry cleaning pick up, to which parcel delivery service you choose to go with, who delievers your milk, or your babies cloth diapers.

Aieral Lift Training

I am now certified to operate aieral lifts! How exciting? I wasn't going to go at first and then I figured why not, it'll add to my knowledge and I've never turned down learning something new before. When we first got there I tried going up in the 19' indoor lift and couldn't do it, I was so scared.... I couldn't get up past 9 feet... we had our course and our lesson, where I asked this guy how you get over vertigo as that was what I was experiancing and he proceeded to show us a bunch of photos that he had taken from the underneath and atop the Golden Gate Bridge, I was amazed, so pretty much you just have to do it, so that's what I did. We then went outside and everyone was doing the big outdoor lift, and I asked Jim if he would come back inside with me cause I wanted to do the indoor lift with no one around to intimidate me, so we went in and I DID IT! I was so scared but I DID IT! Then we were went back outside and the instructor wanted me to get in to the big one and move the switches just to see how it felt, and I did and I kept going nd going it was so much better than the little indoor one. It was great! Here are a couple of pictures, these were taken in the process of getting higher.

Anticipation

blink blink blink - I've sat here for I don't know how long once again watching the cursor blinking. I decided that instead of watching it for another hour or 6 I would just start typing and see where it took me.

Thought A - I'm tired of my work cell, every 10 mins or so it turns itself off and then back on, I think I'm going to go to sprint and complain for the THIRD time. I don't want a different phone I really like the one that I have, maybe I'll google it's problem and see if I can come up with any results.

Thought B - Mr. B is coming home tonight for a few days! I am excited, I miss my husband a lot, more than I can even express into words, yet at the same time - it's weird. I haven't seen him for 3 months. I have my own schedule and eating habits and I'm going to have to 'change' them and start cooking more, which means grocery shopping - I.HATE.GROCERY.SHOPPING. It'll be strange to mesh together again, and then he'll leave for another month and be home for a couple years, which will be extremely wonderful! Then we'll have to figure out where to go and what to do as he will probably leave his company and we will probably (most likely, hopefully, can't wait to) move out of California - think I'm a little excited at this prospect? Which brings me to...

Thought C - Friends. You know the movies where there is a group of friends and they by each others side and help one another and whatnot? ie. Sex and the City, Friends, Catch and Release, PS I Love You, etc. I have that here, here in California something I never thought I would find. Yes I have great friends that are not part of this so called 'group'. But all my friends growing up have never 'known' each other or were at different ends of the spectrum (goth, punk, prep, goody-goody, shy) therefore we all never hung out together. I love the fact that I have a close group of friends; Kim and Dawn. I love them all dearly and to me they are family and I hope that in some way I can give back what they have given me. They lift me up, give great advice, make me laugh, keep me smiling when all I want to do is cry, keep my company when my love is away, these wonderful ladies welcomed me into their world and to them, I want to say "THANK YOU".

Thought D - Books. I need to read more, I love reading, I always have it just seems that lately I can't get into a book no matter what the material is, and that's not normal for me. Maybe I'm just too wrapped up into things that don't matter ya know? Like television, television, movies, and maybe some more television. I tell you that boob tube really sucks your life away sometimes. I am listening to "Lion, Witch, and Wardrobe" right now, I wanted to finish it before the weekend before Mr. B comes home, we have the first movie I just wanted to 'read' the book before I watched it. Here are my books: My Book Blog.

I think that's about all I can think of right now besides I have a lot of stuff to do before going to lunch with one of our vendors and then getting to my page long To-Do list...  Have a wonderful day everyone!

Earthquake Changing Events

So I experienced my first earthquake this evening... it was a 5.6... kinda freaked me out at first made my heart leap into my chest. But it really made me think about a lot of things that I need to do and prioritize in my life. I have had a lot of thoughts on certain topics and things have really hit home to me, things I would rather keep to myself. We have moved our office today and I have found out the reason why I have been so lethargic, dizzy, un-able to pay attention, stuffy, coughy, sneezy, and other symptoms that I have. When they moved my desk the whole wall behind it was covered with MOLD! That's right MOLD! It was gross, I'm going to make a doctors appointment to see if there was any damage done to my lungs and or what not. Hopefully I'll begin to feel better after moving from that office! I'm going to begin working on our 72 hr kits, I just think it would generally be a great idea. I really want to write more but I'm not really sure about what other than I hope there are no really bad aftershock/tremors.

Beginnigs of Fall

Hello Family, Friends, and all Loved Ones...

It is truly the beginning of fall here in the great state of California. Mr. B is working his last day in Sacramento today and will be home for a couple of weeks to take his HAZMAT course before going to Denver in October to work for a couple of months. Which will once again leave me to myself. I plan on taking a 4 day vacation and flying out to see him, and he will come home once a month while he is there. I am very excited as this is where I served my mission and will be able to go to all the great places I love except for Kansas (sorry folks, wish I could). Mr. B and I will be sealed in the Oakland Temple on the 29th of this month at 9am. We are both very excited for this event and seeing the family and friends that will be joining us for this occasion.

I am still loving my job here in the Facilities Management Office, Office Manager. It is very busy and quite hectic, only to becoming more so within the upcoming months of year end work. There isn't nothing much to new, just trying to finish getting the apartment decorated, it is defiantly more expensive then I thought that it would be that's for sure! We love company and news about the family, so keep it coming! Until next post...

9.06.2007

Life is interesting, the more you seem to get accomplished the more that seems to fall on your plate! For the next couple of months and for the past 2, I have been pretty much living alone, except for that occasional day that Mr. B comes home from work. Yet I still can't find the time, motivation, or energy to do anything. I am going to the temple tonight with a good friend that I met shortly after I have moved here, and I am excited about that. I am completly exhausted and would love nothing more than to go home and sleep. I've been at work for 2 hours now and once again accomplished nothing, not that I have that much to do, I just don't feel like doing it. Which is an awful attitude to have especially since I work for the church and am paid with tithing money. I love my job greatly. I just have been wiped out and have had no motivation to do anything. My apartment is clean, and I just have a ton of laundry to fold, I'll do that tonight while watching Big Brother, I don't know why I like it so much, it's actually kinda stupid as more of the people leave each week. I can't wait until the apartment complex gets the gym done I will be there for an hour everyday, and it's free. So my rent is pretty much gym, house, pool, handy man, and terminex fees. :) Makes the rent a bit less I suppose. I really feel like I could lay down right now and take a nap, a VERY LONG nap. I slept really well last night. It's sad though, I'm getting more used to sleeping without Mr. B, so when he is home, I can't get comfortable, nor do I sleep very well. I guess I should get to work, update later.
